Medieval and Modern Philology


The Medieval and Modern Philology section includes professors studying the languages and literatures of the Western Middle Ages and of the European Modern Age, with a special focus on linguistic history, text tradition and edition and interpretation of works. The cultural vision inspirig the section resides in the crucial moment of the Middle Ages, the first historical phase of modern culture and aesthetics (Hegel, Vorlesungen über die Ästhetik). In this period, on the basis of the classical and Judeo-Christian tradition, linguistic styles, literary genres, poetic and novelistic themes and motifs arose, destined to last until the contemporaneity. The research areas include:  romance and germanic philology and linguistics, Italian philology and literature, Medieval and humanistic Latin literature.
