The most important research areas of the Linguistics section include:

  • General and Theoretical Linguistics, with particular reference to Morphology, Lexical Semantics and Semantics of Grammar Categories

  • Italian and Romance Dialectology; Linguistic Geography

  • Sociolinguistics, both as the Description and Theory of Variation and as Sociology of Languages, with particular reference to minority languages

  • Contact Linguistics

  • Italian Linguistics, with particular reference to its diachronic dimension

  • The History of the Italian Language, the Language Issue, Author Stylistics, Metrics

  • Typological Linguistics, especially in a descriptive and contrastive perspective

  • Historical Linguistics and the Theory of Language Change with particular reference to the evolution of the semantic-pragmatic categories

  • Acquisitional and Applied Linguistics
